The installation of Starlink Internet across the entire Holland America fleet

Holland America Line has completed the installation of SpaceX's Starlink high-speed internet on each of the 11 ships in its fleet.

The latest ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam, was equipped with this technology in mid-December in dry dock. Starlink is the leader in low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology that provides high-speed internet worldwide.

Holland America first installed Starlink internet on the Koningsdam in April of this year. Connectivity has improved significantly across the fleet with each Starlink installation, which is particularly noticeable in historically uneven service areas where weather, topography, or port interference can affect bandwidth and quality.

“Holland America Line’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies underscores our dedication to providing an exceptional experience for our guests and team members,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. “The successful integration of Starlink represents a strategic move to embrace innovation and elevate connectivity and convenience during cruises.”

Guests and team members across Holland's fleet are noticing improved connectivity. Since installing high-speed internet, the company has seen increased satisfaction scores, along with greater bandwidth in key regions.

“Guests have told us that the new Starlink high-speed internet is better than they expected while cruising,” said Kathleen Erickson, vice president of technology for Holland America Line. “For guests working remotely from our ships, it’s been a game-changer. And for team members who rely on the internet to stay connected with family back home, it’s a significant upgrade.”

The upgrade to Starlink internet guarantees a more reliable connection in all weather conditions and locations. High-speed internet is crucial for business communications, enabling remote work for guests on board in regions like Alaska, where traditional technology can suffer interference from weather and mountains.

The ships have also seen improved connectivity in other challenging areas, such as ocean crossings and voyages through the Amazon, Antarctica and Chile.
