Miray Cruises has confirmed the cancellation of the cruise due to the lack of a ship that was scheduled to make the trip.
Life at Sea, a new brand from the Miray Cruises group, was going to offer the experience of a lifetime on a cruise that would set sail from Istanbul (Turkey) on November 1, however, the date was postponed until the 11th, something that could not be fulfilled either.
The date was postponed again until November 30th, from Amsterdam (Netherlands), but, almost two weeks before departure, the company informed passengers that the cruise would be cancelled.
Cruise Industry News magazine has indicated that the ship committed to Life at Sea was the former 'AIDAaura', and that it was sold in November to the company Celestyal Cruises.
The company indicated, according to the magazine, that it will make the payments in monthly installments, starting in mid-December. It has also offered to cover accommodation until December 1st, as well as return flights home for anyone currently in Istanbul.
CEOLife at Sea'resigned from the company in November and recorded a video for passengers in which she admitted that the cruise would not be sailing.
Last March, when this long-duration cruise proposal was launched, “bookings got off to a spectacular start, with more than 1,300 applications in the first 24 hours,” said Mikael Petterson, managing director of the new company , from which he separated last May.
The round-the-world trip included meals, entertainment and recreational activities, "connectivity" and amenities and functionality to be able to work on board.
The ship included a 24-hour on-call hospital with free medical visits, learning and enrichment classes, and the opportunity to make a positive impact through volunteer initiatives.
'Life at Sea' offered a 130,000 nautical mile journey, equivalent to 240,000 kilometers, on a voyage that included 140 countries and 7 continents, with stops in 382 ports and access to 13 places declared wonders of the world.
Barcelona, Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Antarctica and Seoul were some of the places he would visit.
