The International Cruise Summit will bring together executives from more than 25 cruise lines in Madrid as they prepare for a record-breaking 2024

If the cruise industry forecasts that in 2023 it will exceed the 2019 figures by 6%, in 2024 a growth of 20% is expected on that basis, thanks to the addition of 16 of the 50 ships that will be built in the next 5 years.

The International Cruise Summit will bring together executives from more than 25 cruise lines in Madrid as they prepare for a record-breaking 2024

The most relevant international professionals in the cruise industry will meet on November 14th and 15th, during the celebration of the thirteenth edition of the International Cruise Summit, the renowned congress that brings together the sector every year at the Meliá Castilla Hotel.

Over two days, several roundtables and presentations will discuss various topics related to the cruise industry and tourist destinations. The cruise industry will be analyzed from an external perspective after a year of recovery, and the main leaders of the sector will also discuss the opportunities and challenges for the coming years.

Cruise lines continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Several trials have been conducted with sustainable fuels, and investment is being made in research on methanol and hydrogen engines. Half of the 50 ships to be built in the next five years will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, while the remaining 25 will be equipped with powerful exhaust filtration systems.

Many of these new ships will also be equipped with shore power connections, allowing them to shut down their engines while in port. Currently, few ports have this type of sustainable energy supply, but numerous projects are underway and slated to be inaugurated in the coming years.

Senior executives, international cruise line representatives, port authorities, travel agents, and industry experts will be present at one of the world's most important cruise congresses. The event will feature presentations from top cruise line executives such as Alessandro Carollo, Director of Government Relations at Royal Caribbean; Andrea Zito, CEO of Swan Hellenic; Linden Coppel, Vice President of Sustainability & ESG at MSC Cruises; Christopher Prelog, President of Windstar Cruises; Andreas Nüssel, Managing Director Europe at Silversea Cruises; Matt Lebbern, Sales Manager Europe & New Markets at Virgin Voyages International; Marie-Caroline Laurent, Managing Director Europe at CLIA; and Sander Groothuis, Vice President of Port & Shore Operations at Carnival UK (P&O, Cunard), among others.
