Icon of the Seas will offer its guests different onboard entertainment shows.
As previously announced, "The Wizard of Oz" headlines the Royal Theatre, and the extreme sports theme "AquaAction" at the AquaTheater, but Nick Weir, senior vice president of Royal Caribbean International, has unveiled some of the new entertainment for the Absolute Zero ice rink and other venues.
Absolute Zero
Speaking to travel partners during Vicki Freed's 'Coffee Talk' show, Nick Weir said that Absolute Zero, in its new location on the Royal Promenade and the line's first oval ice rink, could be one of the best spaces on the Icon of the Seas.
The new show “Starburst Elemental Beauty” is inspired by science. A star explodes in “Starburst,” featuring elements from the Periodic Table.
“We are going to blow up a huge star from which all the elements of the Periodic Table will emerge,” explains Weir, “and metals such as gold, silver and platinum will be part of a dazzling wardrobe.”
Another ice show is “Once Upon A Time: The King's Royal Ball,” filled with fairytale characters such as Pinocchio, Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood, among others.
And Absolute Zero will be the stage for events such as RED Nightclub, Cruise Director Night, laser tag, game shows and the new party “Let There Be Light”, in which participants are invited to dress in white as a surface for the projections.
AquaTheater
The AquaTheater will be taken to another level on the Icon of the Seas, according to Weir, with plenty of extreme sports, but also with a different program, such as a Veterans Tribute, fountain shows and live music, including performances by 'Sunset Strings'.
The previously announced “ AquaAction ” show will be “ the closest thing to a multi-million dollar action movie performed live every night ,” according to Weir, featuring skaters, trampolines, and incorporating technology invented by Royal Caribbean.
In addition, the new “Pirates vs Mermaids” is presented as fun entertainment for the whole family.
Royal Theatre
According to Weir, the Royal Theater on the Icon of the Seas will be a step ahead of other theaters in the fleet, with incredible sight lines.
“The Wizard of Oz” was the first show that the senior vice president of entertainment proposed to Royal Caribbean President/CEO Michael Bayleywhen he decreed that Icon had to be the ultimate family vacation experience. The production will feature contemporary costumes and special effects such as a tornado.
Parade
The Icon's entertainment will also feature a parade on Royal Caribbean's Royal Promenade, held once per cruise, and will have a new theme: "Ships Ahoy!" complete with floats.
In addition, the Icon of the Seas will bring back other essential elements of the brand, such as the Stowaway Piano, which appears in elevators and other unexpected places, as well as the “Name That Tune” contest.
