The Port of Tarragona hosts the second day on the 'Economic-social impact and blue economy in the field of cruises and recreational boating', with the participation of top-level professionals from these two sectors committed to practices that promote safe and sustainable economic and social development.
Tarragona, a unique model in cruises
In their pursuit of environmental and sustainability goals, both cruise ships and mega-yachts require supporting infrastructure in ports and marinas. The Port of Tarragona continues its work in this area, with initiatives such as the electrification project for the Moll de Balears, which will allow for the electrical connection of passenger ships, and the new sustainable cruise terminal by Global Ports Holding, which is scheduled to be operational in May 2024.
Tarragona's governance model is territorial, operating through the institutional cruise board, which includes representatives from the main administrations and companies in the Costa Daurada tourism sector. Thanks to this collaborative effort, and based on the latest statistics collected this season, the arrival of 55 cruise ships and 108,000 passengers is expected.

In addition, cruise lines such as MSC Cruises, Explora Journeys, and Princess Cruises will present their technical and social advancements toward greater sustainability, and other suppliers to the industry will share their key strategies for the development of this sector.
Recreational Boating
The marinas and recreational boating located on our coasts are among the most attractive and sustainable in Europe, with a very important economic and social impact at the local level.
The capacity to revitalize the economic fabric of the territories, as well as the direct economic impact of marinas and the new professions associated with the auxiliary industry, are just some of the aspects that will be addressed in the round table on recreational boating.
We will also delve into the work carried out by D-Marin - Europe's leading operator of premium marinas - in the areas of sustainability and digitalization, providing clear examples of cutting-edge marinas and breaking down the fundamental aspects that make up the so-called blue economy.
Lantimar Yachting & TPA, for its part, will focus on the consignment of megayachts and the importance of "refit & repair" for this type of marina.
