The ship, Swap2Zero, will combine six decarbonization technologies, including a sail power system and hull that will provide an average of 50% of its energy using wind power; more than 1,000 m2of photovoltaic panels, with eco-designed, next-generation organic solar devices integrated into the structures and sails; a low-temperature fuel cell for propulsion, with the water and heat produced being recycled; a high-temperature fuel cell for the ship's hotel cargo needs, with the emitted heat being recovered and used to produce hot water; and an innovative, bespoke energy management system that will control and distribute energy without the need for generators.
For this project, Ponant is working with naval architects Stirling Design International, and discussions are also underway to select a shipyard for delivery of the vessel.

The Swap2Zero vessel is part of Ponant's scientific program, in line with the company's commitment to hosting researchers involved in decarbonization technologies.
