Disney Cruise Line has received the Blue Circle for the tenth time, in recognition of its participation in the port's EcoAction voluntary program and Energy Action Initiative.

Disney Cruise Line wins award for its environmental management

This award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to operating responsibly and sustainably, especially when sailing in the Pacific Northwest,” said Barry Compagnoni, Vice President of Safety, Security, and Environmental Policy and Compliance for the shipping company. “By doing our part to reduce emissions, conserve energy, and protect the region’s rich biodiversity, we are proud to continue our legacy of taking actions that support a healthier environment.”

Turning off the ship's engines and reducing port power grid usage when available is one of the ways Disney Cruise Line reduces its environmental impact when cruising through Alaska and Canada.

In the specific case of Vancouver, where the port's electrical grid is supplied by hydroelectric and wind power, the Disney Wonder eliminated 99% of emissions by using land-based power every time it docked at the Port of Vancouver last year.

According to the company, sourcing energy on land is one of the many ways they are using to reduce their environmental impact, with the intention of achieving The Walt Disney Company's goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2030.

On the other hand, Disney's cruise company continues to invest in low-emission fuels, including the use of ultra-low sulfur fuel on Magic and Dream and liquefied natural gas (LNG) on its newest ships, along with plans to use eco-friendly methanol on a newly acquired ship that will be based in Singapore in 2025.

In addition, the company stated that it has almost eliminated all single-use plastics across its fleet by discontinuing the use of plastic straws, switching to refillable bathroom product dispensers in guest cabins, removing plastic bags from onboard retail outlets, and replacing plastic water bottles with recyclable aluminum ones.
