Uniworld completes the first stage of its Rivers of the World river cruise

The river cruise company began its 46-night Rivers of the World itinerary on May 20, where guests first enjoyed two nights in Cairo and were able to make a special visit to the new Grand Egyptian Museum before its official opening to the public.

Afterwards, the guests boarded the SS Sphinx for a week-long cruise on the Nile River, where they were joined by Uniworld CEO Ellen Bettridge.

“I’m thrilled to be in Egypt for the first leg of our inaugural world cruise, welcoming our fabulous guests on this once-in-a-lifetime journey with Uniworld,” said Bettridge. “Egypt is home to the world’s first river cruise and a natural starting point for our voyage. We enjoyed two days in Cairo and a fantastic week on the SS Sphinx along the Nile, and this is just the beginning.”

The world cruise and land journey will take place on five of the brand's Super Ships through eight countries on two continents. After Egypt, guests will fly to the Swiss Alps for a two-night stay in Lugano, followed by two nights in Milan before boarding the Venezia for a week-long cruise of the Venetian Lagoon.

Guests will then travel to Hungary and sail on the Maria Theresa from Budapest to Passau, Germany, before heading to France to cruise the Seine aboard the Joie de Vivre. The itinerary culminates in Portugal, where guests begin with a Douro River Valley cruise from Porto aboard the Sao Gabriel, followed by three nights in Lisbon and a closing ceremony.

Next year, Uniworld will expand its Rivers of the World voyage with a 55-day itinerary spanning three continents and ten countries, including Argentina and Brazil, aboard four ships. The journey will navigate the Amazon, Mekong, Danube, Rhine, and Rhône rivers.
