NASA astronaut Dr. Kathryn Sullivan was the godmother on June 3rd of one of the world's most technologically advanced ultra-luxury yachts, the Scenic Eclipse II, at its christening held in Malaga.
The speeches were given by Glen Moroney, President of Scenic, and Carlos Rubio, President of the Port Authority of Málaga. The latter presented a special plaque to Glen Moroney, Founder and President of Scenic Group.
The event was attended by dignitaries, industry guests, and media from around the world.
“I was so honored to be asked to be the godmother of Scenic Eclipse II,” said Dr. Kathy Sullivan. “I’ve had the opportunity to visit the ship with Glen and Karen Moroney, hear their story, and see their vision for travel. I’m looking forward to sailing with them.
Glen Moroney, founder and president of The Scenic Group, said, “Kathy Sullivan’s depth of experience about our planet, and on and under our seas, and her incredible passion for exploration are what we believe make her the perfect embodiment of our new Scenic Eclipse Discovery Yacht.”
The newest member of the fleet, Scenic Eclipse, features an expanded steam room in the Senses Spa , complete with aromatherapy, an integrated ice fountain, sensory showers, and heated loungers. It also boasts an expanded infrared room with ocean views. A new Sky Bar offers indoor and outdoor seating and private cabanas, providing guests with the opportunity to enjoy the views with a drink and a large oval-shaped pool.
In addition to two state-of-the-art helicopters for six passengers, Zodiacs, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and other activities, the Scenic Eclipse II will also feature a state-of-the-art electric submersible with capacity for eight guests.
The Scenic Eclipse II features 114 en-suite rooms ranging from 32 to 245 square meters, 10 dining options, and a wide variety of restaurants, including a chef's table or 24/7 room service. It also boasts a well-equipped gym and a yoga and pilates studio, a state-of-the-art theater for shows and conferences, indoor and outdoor plunge pools, butler service for all guests, and near-continuous room service.
The fleet will visit 50 countries across seven continents in 2023 and 2024. The Scenic Eclipse II will explore the islands of Greenland, Svalbard, and Iceland above the Arctic Circle and the Caribbean in its inaugural season. And on new voyages in 2024 and 2025, it will travel the Asia-Pacific region, including New Zealand, Australia's Kimberley and Coral Coast, Tahiti, Fiji, Borneo, and Japan.
