Carnival provided volunteers and donated supplies as part of the hospital's Labor Day Volunteer Project. A group of 20 Carnival Horizon crew members spent the day cleaning, painting, and making repairs in the Learning Center. They also read to children receiving treatment in the pediatric ward.
“We are proud to have been bringing visitors to Jamaica for more than 50 years, and we care deeply about the health and well-being of the community,” said Christine Duffy, President of Carnival. “It has been a pleasure for us to make improvements to the St. Ann’s Learning Centre and we hope they will make a lasting difference for all the children receiving treatment there.”
St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital serves a population of approximately 360,000 from the Portland parishes. The Learning Center offers children in the pediatric ward the opportunity to read and participate in other educational activities, continuing their learning while they are out of school.
“Carnival’s upgrades will ensure that educational and psychological support can continue to be provided to patients while they recover in the newly renovated Learning Center,” said Dennis Morgan, CEO of Santa Ana Bay Regional Hospital.
Carnival expanded its partnership with American Friends of Jamaica, the cruise line's charitable foundation in Jamaica. Chukka Caribbean Adventures, a long-established nature adventure tour operator, also contributed by donating supplies and providing on-the-ground support to the project.
