The Carnival Spirit rescued 24 people in distress on a small boat in the Caribbean on Tuesday.
The Carnival Cruise Line ship, which departed PortMiami on April 8 for a week-long cruise, was headed to Aruba, sailing near the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, when officers spotted the boat.
The crew brought the 24 people to safety and the ship's medical staff confirmed that they were in good condition.
Carnival Spirit officials contacted the coast guards of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to coordinate the transfer. At 3:00 p.m., a Coast Guard cutter arrived to complete the transfer near La Romana, Dominican Republic, and the Carnival Spirit resumed its voyage.
