Norwegian Cruise Line collaborates with British artist Dominic Harris to create an exclusive interactive artwork for the Norwegian Viva.
The artwork, titled “Every Wing Has a Silver Lining,” will be displayed in the Metropolitan Bar on the Norwegian Viva and will feature Harris's butterfly designs. Each digital butterfly with silver wings will respond dynamically throughout the day to the movement of passengers, creating a connection with the viewer.
“Every Wing Has a Silver Lining” is the largest artwork ever created by Harris - measuring 15.8 meters in length - making it one of the largest interactive digital artworks in existence in terms of raw processing power that responds to the movement and touch of viewers and passersby.

Dominic Harris states, “I hope my artworks act as a mirror, reflecting both the viewer’s outside world and my own fascination with the ‘butterfly effect.’ I want every viewer to feel that their interaction with ‘Every Wing Has A Silver Lining’ is a thrilling dance experienced alongside something immense, powerful, and truly meaningful!”
At its inauguration this summer, the Norwegian Viva will feature “The Concourse”, an art promenade on Ocean Boulevard with six modern sculptures by artists such as Kevin Box, Arik Levy and Sophie Elizabeth Thompson.
The Norwegian Viva will offer the most spacious cabins of any cruise ship today, with high-end specialty restaurants like “Palomar” and “Nama”, and the return of experiences like “The Rush” and “The Drop”, the fastest free-fall water slides at sea, and the three-level “Viva Speedway”.
The Norwegian Viva will begin its Mediterranean itineraries in August 2023, with homeports in key southern European cities such as Lisbon (Portugal), Venice (Trieste), Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, and Athens (Piraeus). It will then sail the southern Caribbean during its 2023-2024 winter season.
