The Port of A Coruña today welcomed the new P&O Cruises ship, the "Arvia," which will make its maiden call in the city. Arvia, arriving from Tenerife, is scheduled to depart at 5:00 PM for Southampton.
It is one of the largest ocean liners in the international fleet, measuring 344 meters in length and 42 meters in beam. Like its sister ship, the "Iona," it is powered by natural gas, reflecting the growing trend among cruise lines to use more environmentally friendly systems in their engines and processes, with the aim of reducing emissions and minimizing their carbon footprint. Among its attractions for travelers are its 20 decks, 20 restaurants, 6 swimming pools, a mini-golf course, and a water park.
The “Arvia”, handled by Rubine e Hijos, will arrive in A Coruña with 4,600 passengers and 1,700 crew members, for a total of 6,300 people on board. To further enhance its stay in the city, the port's tugboats will bid it farewell with powerful water jets as it departs.
The Port of A Coruña surpassed all its previous cruise traffic records in 2022, with 222,723 passengers across 136 port calls, consolidating its leading position in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, from Lisbon to Brittany, France. Forecasts for this year suggest that these figures could even be exceeded.
