Crystal Cruises, now part of A&K Travel Group Ltd., appoints a team of highly respected captains in the industry to take the helm of Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony.
“We have been working hard recruiting some of the best captains in the industry to restore this iconic brand,” announced Roberto Fazi, Senior Vice President of Marine Operations for Crystal Cruises. “Working together, they are committed to restoring Crystal to its position as one of the most awarded brands in the industry.”.
Captain Birger J. Vorland – With an extensive maritime career that began at age 19, Captain Vorland will once again join Crystal. He previously joined Crystal Cruises in 2003 and commanded Crystal Serenity on voyages covering most of the world, including expeditions to the Northwest Passage in 2016 and 2017. “I look forward to rebuilding the staff and crew who achieved so many firsts. Crystal ships set the standard for luxury and service, and I can’t wait to welcome our guests back.”
Captain Nenad Willheim – Born in a Croatian city with a long maritime tradition, Captain Willheim began his career at sea as a deck cadet on a general cargo vessel while studying at the College of Maritime Studies. After holding various positions within the industry, he joined Crystal Serenity as First Officer in 2006, later becoming Vice-Captain in 2011 and Captain of the former Crystal Esprit in 2015.
Captain Tonci Hladilo – With a Master Seaman's License, Captain Hladilo joined his first passenger ship in 2002, eventually serving as First Officer while earning a Diploma in Maritime Management from the University of Dubrovnik. In 2006, he joined Crystal Cruises as First Officer, sailing on the Crystal Symphony, Crystal Serenity, and the former Crystal Esprit as Navigation Officer, Chief Officer, and Vice-Captain. In 2017, he was promoted to Captain of the Crystal Esprit.
Captain Vincent Taillard — After graduating from the Marseille Merchant Marine Academy in 2003 with a dual-purpose deck and engine license, Captain Taillard began his career aboard various ships and private yachts. He obtained his Master Unlimited Class One License in 2007, becoming a Captain in 2008. He is an Ice Pilot and a certified Ice Navigation Captain and has commanded numerous cruise ships and expedition vessels on the seven seas
