In an official handover ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard, P&O Cruises has taken possession of the Arvia, the latest addition to its fleet and, like its sister ship Iona, the largest cruise ship ever built for the UK market.
At 185,000 tons, 345 meters in length, and with 16 decks, the Arvia is P&O Cruises' second ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the most advanced fuel technology in the marine industry to date. The Arvia features an optimized hull design to minimize drag and is equipped with the latest energy-efficient technology.
P&O Cruises Chairman Paul Ludlow, who was present at the event in Bremerhaven and signed the Handover and Acceptance Protocol, stated:
“The ship is now officially part of the P&O Cruises fleet and we are focused on preparing it to welcome guests on the inaugural cruise on December 23 before departing for the Caribbean on January 6, 2023 for a winter season from Barbados.”.
