The Port of Vigo has welcomed MSC Virtuosa, one of the latest ships to join the MSC Cruises fleet. Launched in November 2021, MSC Virtuosa is one of the most environmentally advanced cruise ships in the world. This inaugural call, which included the traditional exchange of plaques, was attended by representatives from both MSC Cruises and port authorities. Among them were Jesús Vázquez, President of the Port of Vigo, and Sofía Basterra, Head of Communications for MSC Cruises in Spain.

This first stop in the port of Vigo marks another key milestone in the company's strategy to increase its presence in Spain and, specifically, in Galicia, and has provided a unique opportunity for the city of Vigo to get to know MSC Virtuosa, an innovative ship with capacity for more than 4,800 passengers.
Sofía Basterra expressed this sentiment, commenting: “It is a pleasure for us to return to the port of Vigo, and also to resume working with all the authorities, companies, travel agencies, suppliers, and local entities with whom we have collaborated for some time and with whom we share a professional relationship. We look forward to continuing to work with the Vigo port authorities to further strengthen our ties and work together for the future.”
For his part, the president of the Port of Vigo, Jesús Vázquez, highlighted that, “this port call demonstrates the cruise sector's successful recovery from the crisis, which, in the case of Vigo, is evident through inaugural visits like this one, large ships, and an increasing commitment by shipping companies to technological and environmental innovations.” In this regard, he congratulated MSC for continuing to choose the Port of Vigo as a port of call for these large vessels and noted that the institution he heads has strengthened its commitment to sustainability through its new Blue Growth strategy for the period 2021-2027.
The MSC Virtuosa has arrived in the port of Vigo after making stops in Las Palmas, Tenerife, and Lanzarote in recent days, where it also made its first port of call of the season. The MSC Virtuosa is currently on an 11-day itinerary from Southampton, UK, which will be its home port for the summer season.
