The Hurtigruten Group has acquired a 24.9% stake in Ecuador's Metropolitan Touring, one of South America's leading travel companies and a pioneer in the Galapagos Islands.

Last June, Hurtigruten announced its expansion in the Galapagos through a long-term partnership with Metropolitan Touring, and in December, Hurtigruten doubled its Galapagos offering with additional year-round itineraries available in 2023 and 2024.
'This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a more meaningful partnership, where we can expand quickly and strategically and fulfill our vision for the future together,' said Hurtigruten Group CEO Daniel Skjeldam, adding that Metropolitan Touring 'reflects our expedition heritage and our values of sustainability.'.
Metropolitan Touring's CEO, Paulina Burbano de Lara, said that Hurtigruten's investment "will strengthen South America's position as a travel destination, putting its natural and cultural attractions in the spotlight for today's responsible traveler.".
Passengers on the Santa Cruz II can add land-based adventures before or after their trip to the Galápagos, such as Peru's Machu Picchu, Ecuador's Cotopaxi National Park, and Quito. Hurtigruten said the strengthened partnership will expand opportunities for more land-based programs and excursions.
