London-based photographer Sasha Gusov, famous for his portraits of stars of theater, film, music, and ballet, is now devoting himself more frequently to his own artistic projects. A constant traveler, he has captured haunting images of the Swan Hellenic SH Minerva's cruise to Antarctica. With his knack for being in the right place at the right time, Gusov not only captured the wild majesty of Antarctica but also the emergency evacuation of the Antarctic Quest 21 expedition team.
Although she couldn't resist taking digital color photos of the Minerva's elegant interiors and artwork, Sasha also wanted to capture black and white images that conveyed the majesty of the Antarctic Peninsula. Furthermore, when the Swan Hellenic came to the aid of the Antarctic Quest 21 expedition, commemorating the centenary of Shackleton's final voyage, Sasha was there to witness the team's swift emergency response.
Sasha prefers black and white film in particular for its intense textures, evocative contrasts, and soul, which is captured in all her photographs. “I loved every minute with Swan Hellenic,” said Sasha Gusov. “It was a truly profound and eye-opening experience. And what a ship—stunning! To also witness the emergency evacuation of the Antarctic Quest was a real privilege…”
