Princess Cruises today announced the sale of the Pacific Princess to an undisclosed buyer. The sale of the cruise ship is in line with parent company Carnival Corporation's plan to accelerate the retirement of less efficient vessels from its fleet.

The Pacific Princess leaves the Princess Cruises fleet

The Pacific Princess joined the cruise line's fleet in 2002. This boutique-style ship offered an intimate cruising environment, accommodating only 670 passengers and many of the dining and entertainment options available.

Beloved by many loyal Princess guests, the Pacific Princess sailed more than 1.6 million nautical miles, completed 11 world cruises, and offered distinctive itineraries to coveted destinations around the globe. In fact, “Captain Stubing of The Love Boat” and Princess Cruises ambassador Gavin MacLeod was on the ship’s bridge when it passed under the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time to begin its inaugural season sailing to Alaska from San Francisco in May 2003.

“The Pacific Princess holds many cherished memories and experiences for all who sailed on her,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “The Pacific Princess offered a traditional cruising style to unique destinations. While it’s difficult to say goodbye, the itineraries continue aboard our Medallion-class-enabled Island Princess and Coral Princess ships, which feature the best Wi-Fi at sea, allowing guests to stay connected with loved ones and share vacation memories while on the voyage.”

Another historic moment for Pacific Princess was the sailing of a cruise recreating the cruise line's first itinerary to the iconic Mexican Riviera to celebrate Princess Cruises' 50th anniversary on December 3, 2015. The cast of "The Love Boat" attended this special cruise: Along with guests, they celebrated the role the show played in Princess Cruises' five-decade history, introducing the cruise line—and cruise vacations—to millions of people around the world.

Customers with reservations and travel agents will be notified and will receive information on how to book another Princess cruise when operations resume.
