The international meeting of cruise tourism in the Mediterranean, Seatrade Cruise Med, which was scheduled to be held in Malaga in September 2020, will finally be held during the last four months of 2022, the date of the next edition of this biennial event.
The decision was made by the Seatrade Cruise Organization, in collaboration with local partners, as a result of the current health situation. This will allow the port and destination to continue being promoted as the venue for one of the most important trade fairs in the sector for the next two years.
The commitment to these types of professional meetings takes on special relevance in these times when the cruise industry has been clearly affected, so local institutions maintain their commitment to boosting the economic recovery of the sector, without neglecting the safety of the port and the destination.
Thus, the Organizing Committee of Seatrade Cruise Med in Malaga, made up of the Port Authority, the Tourism Area of the City Council of the capital, Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol and the Ministry of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía has signed an addendum to the act of constitution of the committee for the celebration of this fair, thus formalizing the commitment acquired previously.
Institutional collaboration is essential for promoting cruise activity and for holding an event of this nature, so today's document reinforces the conditions approved in 2019 for its development.
The location, the options offered by the destination to organize activities complementary to the fair, the good air, rail and road connections, as well as the hotel capacity of the capital and the province, continue to be the most outstanding aspects for choosing Malaga as the venue for this important meeting.
In addition, work is underway to implement the corresponding health and safety measures, as well as to obtain quality certifications, in order to respond to the main shipping companies and executives in the sector who will begin their activity soon and who, in 2022, will be able to learn firsthand about the port infrastructure and the destination's offerings. This will provide an opportunity to position Malaga on the international cruise map and, in turn, open a door to Andalusia and other ports in the region, making our destination much more attractive.
Over the past few years, Malaga has generated great interest in the sector as the venue for this meeting, so institutions and companies will combine all their efforts to hold a successful edition that exceeds the expectations of the attending professionals.
The Mediterranean International Cruise Show, one of the industry's leading events, was held in Genoa from 1996 to 2004. Since then, it has been held biennially in a different cruise destination each year. The event is organized by Seatrade Cruise, a division of Informa Markets, Informa plc.
