The TUI Group has successfully completed the sale of its subsidiary Hapag-Lloyd Cruises to TUI Cruises. TUI Cruises is based in Hamburg and is a joint venture between TUI and Royal Caribbean Group.
TUI Cruises, with a strong track record since 2008, will be able to expand as planned. All necessary approvals for the transaction have been received, so the deal can now be closed on the agreed terms, albeit at a challenging time for the market. The transfer of the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises ships to the joint venture will be completed in the coming days.
In its new configuration, the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises brand will remain the leading provider of luxury and expedition cruises in German-speaking markets. The fleet currently consists of two luxury cruise ships (MS Europa and MS Europa 2) and three expedition cruise ships, with a future expedition ship under construction scheduled for delivery in 2021, replacing the MS Bremen.
TUI Cruises successfully serves the premium segment in German-speaking markets with the “Mein Schiff”, whose fleet currently consists of seven ships.
