Steven Young, VP of Port and Land Operations for Carnival UK's P&O Cruises and Cunard brands, will retire at the end of this month. Young has been responsible at Carnival UK since 2011 for planning the port calls of the P&O and Cunard fleets worldwide, managing strategic relationships with governments, port authorities, and service providers in more than 300 ports.
Responsible for itinerary planning and port operations, passenger embarkation and disembarkation, shore services and logistics operations, she has also been one of Carnival UK's key public faces at cruise industry meetings and events around the world for the past nine years.
Young began his career in the port sector in Australia and the United Kingdom, working for Associated British Ports for 10 years and between 2009 and 2010 he was executive director of gm & harbor master at Sydney Ports Corporation.
“Having split my career fairly evenly between ports and the cruise industry, I have a perspective on both,” Young said. “Both positions have a direct connection to the sea, which is my great love, but the most enjoyable aspect has been the camaraderie and friendship of the people who make up the international cruise community, and this is what I will miss the most,” commented Young, who began his commitment to the maritime industry serving as a deck officer on P&O/Princess Cruises.
“I firmly believe that the industry will emerge stronger and wiser from its current adversity, and my advice to anyone working in it is to stay in the industry. There is no greater satisfaction than being part of an organization that aims to make people happy and provide them with unparalleled experiences and memories,” Young commented.
Young plans to keep a close eye on the industry in the future, in addition to providing consulting services after his retirement.
