Steve McCurry, Silversea collaborator and world-renowned photographer, was inducted into the prestigious Photography Hall of Fame on November 1, 2019. Presented in St. Louis, Missouri, the award is one of the highest honors a photographer can achieve and celebrates a lifetime of accomplishments for the legendary artist.
Silversea Cruises proudly congratulates McCurry on his achievement. Since the launch of the creative collaboration in 2017, the photographer has embarked on more than 25 immersive voyages with Silversea, capturing over 500 images of enigmatic cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and unique moments around the world.
“It is an honor to have my work recognized by such a prestigious organization as the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum, which strives to preserve and share the art of photography. Whenever I travel, I am driven to seek out unique moments and capture the expression of the human experience. My travels with Silversea have allowed me to do exactly this; together, we have traveled to many destinations around the world,” McCurry said of his latest award.
Among the many places he has visited with Silversea, McCurry cites the Galápagos Islands as his favorite, describing the remote archipelago as “a time capsule and an inspiring place.” He also adds that being able to explore the Galápagos Islands by ship in the same way Darwin did “was a childhood dream come true.”.
Other destinations visited by McCurry with Silversea include Mongolia, Svalbard, Papua New Guinea, Bhutan, Kolkata, Russia, Jordan and Vietnam, to name a few.
When asked about his process for shooting revealing photos of a culture without being intrusive, McCurry explains: “The best way to capture the essence of a culture is to treat people with respect. Establish a friendly smile. Most people like being photographed. You need to make them feel comfortable around you, with humor.”.

Silversea Cruises also congratulates the other seven photographers who were inducted into the Photography Hall Of Fame in 2019: Bruce Davidson, Elliott Erwitt, Ralph Gibson, Mary Ellen Mark, Paul Nicklen, Olivia Parker and Tony Vaccaro.
