Cadiz, October 29, 2019 – During a visit today to the Navantia shipyards (Cadiz), Royal Caribbean revealed all the details about the revitalization work being carried out on the Oasis of the Seas, the iconic ship that is celebrating its 10th anniversary and once revolutionized the cruise industry.
This revitalization, the most important the company has carried out to date, is part of its "Royal Amplified" fleet remodeling program and will involve an investment of $165 million.

According to Royal Caribbean,“with this renovation, we aim to modernize and reinvent a ship that pioneered the unique concept of seven neighborhoods, a zip line, and the AquaTheater.” Furthermore, “the revitalization of the Oasis of the Seas seeks to once again transform family vacations, incorporating some of the most revolutionary amenities found on the latest ships in our fleet.”
A team of over 5,000 people—300 of them dedicated to installing the Ultimate Abyss and Perfect Storm slides—from 50 different countries is participating in this project, which will take 63 days and 2 million work hours, requiring 1,650 containers of materials and supplies. After the refurbishment, 800 tons of weight will have been added to the Oasis of the Seas , and 81 areas on board the ship will have been renovated.
For this major revitalization, Royal Caribbean has once again chosen the Navantia shipyards in Cadiz, thus demonstrating the company's strong commitment to Spain and the Andalusian capital.
Navantia emphasizes that “our relationship with Royal Caribbean dates back to 2011, and since then Navantia has strived to deliver ships on time while meeting the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental protection. Numerous Royal Caribbean vessels have passed through our facilities, and we would like to thank Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. for their trust in our shipyards. We are also confident in maintaining a long-term relationship, which will benefit both companies and the entire Bay of Cádiz.”
This is not the first time Royal Caribbean has chosen this shipyard to refurbish its fleet. In fact, they have collaborated on previous occasions, and in 2020 the Allure of the Seas. After its modernization, the ship will be relaunched, sailing Mediterranean routes that same season.
