Princess Cruises' new ship has successfully completed its sea trials and is ready to set sail on October 20th.
Princess Cruises has completed another phase prior to the launch of the Sky Princess, the newest ship to join the fleet of the world's largest premium this October. After six days of highly successful sea trials, the vessel has returned to the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, for final touches before its maiden voyage. The cruise line will continue its expansion soon with the addition of the Enchanted Princess and three more new ships in 2021, 2023, and 2025.
Princess Cruises has reached another milestone in its preparations for the launch of its newest ship, the Sky Princess, which has now successfully completed its sea trials. The vessel, with a capacity for 3,660 passengers, set sail from its construction dock at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, and underwent a series of trials to test its propulsion, steering, and nautical equipment.
After six days of successful sea trials, the vessel has returned to the shipyard, where it will undergo final interior and exterior touch-ups before being ready for its maiden voyage: a seven-day journey through the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas, beginning on October 20th. Following a short stay in these destinations, it will head for the Caribbean.

The Sky Princess will be an evolution of its sister ships (the Royal, the Regal, and the Majestic Princess), and its improvements will also be reflected in other ships such as the Enchanted Princess, which will be launched in Southampton in June 2020. These improvements include:
- Two Sky Suites, boasting the largest balconies at sea, will be located in the center of the upper decks. Measuring 94 square meters (starboard) and 88 square meters (port), these fully equipped suites will offer a prime view of the Movies Under The Stars. They will also feature 270-degree panoramic views and can accommodate up to five guests. The interior will include two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining area with a skylight, and a selection of exclusive amenities.
- New entertainment offerings include Take Five , the new jazz area , a redesigned Vista Lounge, various improvements to the Princess Theatre and the recently announced production of the 'Rock Opera' show.
- More than 25 dining spaces and bars on board, from the WorldFresh Marketplace to specialty restaurants such as La Mer (a French bistro), the Crown Grill Steakhouse or the Trattoria Sabatini.
- A redesigned area for the Sanctuary, an adults-only, spa-inspired upper-deck retreat. This space will feature an enhanced contemporary design, including twice as many private cabins as its sister ships, along with new furnishings and the option to book a spa treatment.
On the other hand, the ship will incorporate the Medallion Class , thanks to the Ocean Medallion wearable device which, with a size similar to a €1 coin, provides a completely new level of service, allowing passengers to enjoy a personalized and worry-free vacation on board with:
- Faster boarding. Passengers who upload their travel documents (passports) to their profile before arriving at the terminal will enjoy a faster boarding process, allowing them to start their vacation sooner and more easily.
- Keyless access to the cabin. There's no need to touch, swipe, insert cards, or use any other device to open the cabin doors. As the passenger approaches, the door will unlock automatically.
- On-demand services. Through smart devices, you can order drinks, food, or other items such as sunscreen and receive them directly anywhere on the ship, including your cabin.
- Interactive games. Available on the ship's portals and mobile devices, PlayOcean offers travelers a new level of fun through digital treasure hunts, personalized avatars, and much more. This platform turns passengers' devices into controllers for interactive gaming on the large outdoor screen.
- A locator for friends and family. Through travelers' smart devices, as well as portals and screens throughout the ship, the Ocean Compass allows the Ocean Medallion to easily locate and communicate with friends and family on board. It's a tool that guides passengers on their journey by providing directional information so they can head to their next point of interest.
- An interactive journey timeline. Available on the ship's portals and mobile devices, Journey View allows passengers to preview all scheduled onboard events throughout their voyage, as well as add and mark their favorite activities, thus designing their own personalized itinerary. Itineraries can be viewed up to 60 days before the cruise departs, allowing travelers to plan their vacation even before leaving home.
The Princess Cruises fleet will continue to expand with the launch of the Enchanted Princess and three more ships joining it in 2021, 2023 and 2025.
