MSC Grandiosa, the newest ship in the MSC Cruises fleet, set to launch in November, will host the world's first art experience on board a cruise ship. The immersive art and gastronomy experience, "Degas Danse Dessin," aims to bring passengers closer to the world of fine art with a captivating exhibition of original Impressionist artwork.

Housed in a purpose-built installation within the ever- chic L'Atelier Bistro, located in the heart of the ship's Promenade, the Edgar Degas exhibition marks a milestone as the first art exhibition ever curated on board a cruise ship. The "Danse Dessin" project features 26 original pieces based on dance and movement, which have previously been exhibited in leading international museums and galleries. Degas's work captures the soul of a romantic Paris, perfectly complementing the new French Bistro on board MSC Grandiosa. Furthermore, it will offer passengers a truly immersive experience thanks to five interactive videos projected alongside the exhibited pieces, providing further insight into Degas's life and work.
With each new ship launched by MSC Cruises, the company always seeks to elevate the onboard experience by offering new and unique activities that cannot be experienced anywhere else. This new initiative combines art and technology for a unique entertainment offering created exclusively to bring passengers closer to the world of art.
The introduction and presentation of these renowned works is part of a collaboration between MSC Cruises and THE AIMES, a production company specializing in creating multi-sensory and interactive experiences using innovative technology to connect people with art and culture. The exhibition has been curated by art historian, critic, and member of THE AIMES' production team, Marcello Smarrelli.
Marcello Smarrelli, curator of the exhibition, commented: “Despite his seemingly romantic themes, Degas was a major experimenter, deeply interested in the use of new technologies available during those years of great scientific and industrial innovation. The focus of his artistic research was the study of the human body's movement and the attempt to reproduce it in a work of art. For this reason, his artistic practice was fundamental to the birth of photography and film, of which Degas was a pioneer. I am sure he would have loved to be present at this interactive art exhibition, shown for the first time on board a ship. It is an exciting opportunity to connect people with Degas's illustrations in a new way and bring them to life through digital content for MSC Cruises passengers.”
MSC Grandiosa will become the new flagship of the MSC Cruises fleet upon its launch in November, a state-of-the-art ship offering a wealth of experiences for every passenger. Highlights of its entertainment include new Cirque du Soleil at Sea shows, a wide selection of international cuisine, new family activities, and an enhanced version of the exclusive MSC Yacht Club.
MSC Grandiosa will become the second MSC Cruises ship to include ZOE, the world's first virtual personal cruise assistant, and will also offer the service of the new and updated MSC for Me digital innovation program, which helps passengers get the most out of their cruise vacation.
