Fincantieri has announced the signing of an agreement that will allow the construction of two 133,500 gross tonnage ships at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS) shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
These two ships, the first of which will be delivered in 2023, will sail for a new Chinese brand of the joint venture CSSC Carnival Shipping Ltd, formed by Carnival Corporation and CSSC.
The contract is valued at $1.5 billion, not including the option to build four more ships. Fincantieri also has a joint venture with CSSC Cruise Technology Development Co. Ltd (CCTD), to whom it will license the ship design and provide project management services, supply chain management, and supply the ship's essential systems and components.
