Madrid, – July 12, 2018 – Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: NCLH), (together with NCL Corporation Ltd., “Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings”, “Norwegian” or the “Company”) announced that they have confirmed the previously announced option to build the fifth and sixth Leonardo-class ships with Fincantieri SpA for Norwegian Cruise Line. Deliveries are scheduled for 2026 and 2027, respectively.
“This order expands our disciplined and measured new-ship building program and our strong growth trajectory going forward,” said Frank Del Rio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “Our fleet of six Leonardo-class ships will allow us to expand our presence in high-performing markets where service is limited or nonexistent, and offer new experiences to our guests.”.
With a gross tonnage of 140,000 and a capacity for 3,300 passengers, this next-generation class of ships will build upon the highly successful freedom and flexibility found across the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, including the latest Breakaway Plus Class ships, and features a host of ingenious designs that will further elevate your already award-winning guest experience. A key design priority for the prototype is energy efficiency, with the goal of optimizing fuel consumption and reducing environmental impact. A smaller footprint will also expand deployment opportunities worldwide. More details on the many innovative guest-facing features will be shared at a later date.
With the announcement of this new ship, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has seven ships on order for Norwegian Cruise Line and one for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, for a total of eight ships to be delivered through 2027. The company will take delivery of its newest ship, the Norwegian Encore, in the fall of 2019.
