Madrid/Palma de Mallorca, May 23 - Passenger transport company ALSA reports that it has closed a strategic alliance by acquiring a shareholding in the BC Tours Group, a Balearic company specializing in the provision of tourist and land services for the maritime sector, mainly focused on the cruise market.
BC Tours is a family-owned group with 35 years of experience, a pioneer in Spain in providing services to various cruise lines and an active participant in the growth and development of the cruise sector in the country. With permanent offices in the ports of Palma, Barcelona, and Cádiz, and a presence in all other Spanish ports—including those in the Balearic and Canary Islands—it employs 60 people and had a turnover of €26 million in the last fiscal year.
For ALSA, this investment in the BC Tours Group will allow it to diversify its business, developing new lines of business in the tourism sector in general and the cruise industry in particular. This agreement continues ALSA's strategic approach of diversification and growth, generating synergies with its core transportation business and strengthening its presence in the Balearic and Canary Islands, where ALSA already operates on the islands of Mallorca, Ibiza, and Tenerife.
One of BC Tours' main activities is excursions for cruise passengers, as well as transfer and destination management services. It handles 900 port calls each year for more than 500,000 cruise tourists from major cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Carnival Corporation & PLC, Norwegian Cruise Line Holding, and MSCCruises. The Group also operates another line of business providing shore services and ship provisioning.
With this acquisition of a stake, ALSA seals an interesting alliance with a company with an excellent position in an expanding market, a great track record and is well managed.
