Carnival Corporation has signed an order for a second LNG-powered ship destined for the P&O fleet in 2022.
It will be a 180,000-ton ship with a capacity for 5,200 passengers and, like its sister ship, registered in the UK. These two ships will increase P&O's capacity by 22%. Construction of the first will begin this spring and it will be delivered in 2020. Cruise sales will begin in September, and some key design elements will be revealed this year.
Senior Vice President Paul Ludlow said, “We will see even greater growth in cruising across all age groups, including millennials and Generation X. Many of them have already developed a love for cruising because they have traveled on cruises with their families growing up.”.
Carnival Corporation currently has 19 ships on order. Eight of them are Meyer Werft and Meyer Werft Turku ships with dual-fuel (LNG) systems, and delivery dates between 2018 and 2022.
In addition to these two for P&O, there are two for AIDA, two for Costa Cruises, and two for Carnival Cruise Line.
