The expansion of the Cartagena Port cruise terminal will allow for an increase in calls by large ships, up to 330 meters in length, and will also allow for the berthing of two cruise ships of this size at the Alfonso XII dock. The president of State Ports, José Llorca, the president of the Cartagena Port Authority, Antonio Sevilla, and the Minister of Public Works, Pedro Rivera, inaugurated the terminal expansion.
Last year, the Port of Cartagena recorded 187,193 cruise passengers and 121 port calls, and this year they expect to exceed 150 port calls and 243,000 passengers, including one quadruple port call, six triple port calls, and 23 double port calls. In addition, the Royal Princess will make four sailings from Cartagena this year in May, June, July, and September.
The expansion of the cruise terminal involved extending the berth by 144 meters, bringing the total length of the pier to 667 meters. This will allow for the simultaneous berthing of two cruise ships up to 330 meters in length. The expansion of the port facilities represents an investment of over €4.6 million by State Ports (Ministry of Public Works) and took 16 months to complete.
