The Port of A Coruña has received a new double stop of massive cruise ships, in which the imposing Britannia and the elegant Seven Seas Explorer, which is also making its first visit to the city, are docked at the piers.
To mark this first port call, the ship's captain hosted a reception on board, attended by a delegation that included the President of the Port Authority, Enrique Losada; the Government Delegate in Galicia, Santiago Villanueva; the Maritime Captain, Gustavo Ortega; the Chief of Police, Manuel Vázquez; the Manager of the Tourism Consortium, Lanzada Calatayud; as well as representatives from the Civil Guard, the shipping agent Rubine, and Corunna Cruise Terminal. The captain expressed his delight at returning to the city, on his second visit to A Coruña, and highlighted the ease of access to the port and the beautiful views of the city from the sea.
The Seven Seas Explorer arrived from Leixões, Portugal, and is scheduled to depart for Bilbao. It is carrying 620 passengers and 550 crew members, which, combined with the high occupancy of the Britannia, P&O Cruises' flagship, has once again filled the city center with foreign tourists. The enormous cruise ship remains docked at the Transatlantic Pier, where it arrived from Southampton. It is also headed to Bilbao, where it will depart with 3,800 passengers and 1,400 crew members on board.
Adding both ships together, the total number of passengers disembarking in the city today exceeds 6,300, culminating a month with excellent figures, including 24 port calls, specifically the final arrival of May, the Silver Cloud, scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday. The last seven days have been particularly busy, with no fewer than ten port calls, including those of industry giants such as the Queen Elizabeth and the Independence of the Seas. The forecast for the year remains at 121 port calls and around 170,000 cruise passengers, which will set a record for the Port of A Coruña and solidify its position as the leading port on the Cantabrian-Atlantic coast, not only in port calls but also in passenger numbers.
