The cruise ship “MS Amadea” has arrived in Ferrol from the port of Portsmouth, carrying 1,000 passengers and crew. This vessel—owned by the Amadea Shipping Company and operated by Phoenix Reisen—was built in 1991 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at its Nagasaki shipyard in Japan, commissioned by Nippon Yusen Kaisha. It was initially named “MS Asuka.”.
In 2006, it was taken over by Phoenix Raisen, who renamed it the “MS Amadea”. With a maximum capacity of 600 guests, mostly German, this cruise ship will remain in Ferrol until early afternoon, when it is scheduled to depart for the port of Leixões (Portugal).
The Ferrol-San Cibrao Port Authority will provide tourists who wish to visit the city with a shuttle bus system from the port to Galicia Square, so that visitors can stroll through the city center and visit EXPONAV, the main Spanish maritime museum dedicated to the history of shipbuilding in the world and in particular in Spain.
Ferrol will receive five passenger ships next month, carrying more than 4,600 visitors. The first two calls are expected: the P&O Cruises ship "Arcadia" on the 5th, and the "Star Pride" on the 7th. This will be the first visit for this ship, which is the latest addition to the Windstar Cruises fleet.
Furthermore, the 7th will be a double-call day, as the “Star Pride” will share the port of Ferrol with the “Variety Voyager” from Variety Cruises. It is scheduled to return in September. The “Star Legend” will visit on the 18th and is expected to return in August, and the “Wind Surf” will arrive on the 19th; both are regular cruise ships in Ferrol.
