Between 7 and 8 a.m., the first four cruise ships had already docked. The Oriana, docked at the Alfonso XIII pier, was the earliest. Arriving from Southampton, it brought 1,731 passengers and 798 crew members, who will remain until approximately 5 p.m. this afternoon, when they will depart for Marseille.
Following it, the MSC Preziosa entered the Marqués de Comillas dock , having previously stopped in the port of Arrecife, with 3,358 tourists on board and a crew of 1,257. It will depart this afternoon for Lisbon.
The third ship to arrive, the Viking Star, which docked at the Reina Sofía pier from Malaga, with 879 passengers and 470 crew members, shares the same destination.
Finally, the two ships from the Thomson Cruises company, the Thomson Dream and Thomson Majesty, come from Funchal and are destined for Malaga, bringing 1,043 and 1,398 passengers respectively.
The socio-economic impact of this traffic on the surrounding area is around 34.23 euros per passenger per day, according to the latest study carried out by the Andalusian Regional Government on cruise tourism in the region.
If forecasts hold true, 2017 will see more than 300 stopovers for the first time in history. Currently, 314 are scheduled.
