The Port of A Coruña received three cruise ship calls this morning, carrying nearly 8,000 passengers and crew. This significant influx of tourists marks the beginning of the busiest month of the year, with a total of 25 cruise ship arrivals expected in May.
The ships arriving in the city today almost simultaneously reached the docks, starting around eight in the morning. In addition to the large ships Aida Diva and Azura, already scheduled for April, the Hamburg, recently added to the calendar, arrived today.
The Transatlantic Pier is currently occupied by the largest of the three ships, the Azura, from P&O Cruises, which arrived in the city with over 3,300 passengers and 1,100 crew members from Bilbao and will depart for St. Peter's Port around 6:00 PM. At the Calvo Sotelo South Pier is the Aida Diva, from Aida Cruises, which arrived from Lisbon with 2,200 passengers and 650 crew members and will depart at 6:30 PM for Le Havre. Finally, at the Batería Pier, the MS Hamburg has docked with 350 passengers and 150 crew members and will leave the city at 7:00 PM.
With these three port calls, the total number of passengers arriving in the city since January has now exceeded 22,000. All indications suggest that the current record, with over 120 port calls and 170,000 passengers for the year, will be broken. This not only consolidates the Port of A Coruña's position as the leading port on the Cantabrian-Atlantic coast in terms of port calls, but also puts it in first place in terms of passenger numbers.
A large crowd is expected this coming Sunday, with the docking of three ships: the Aida Luna, with a capacity for more than 2,000 passengers; the Midnatsol, which can accommodate up to 1,000 cruise passengers; and the Viking Sea, which is also close to this number.
