The PortCastelló Foundation has convened the Cruise Promotion Committee to develop a plan to attract more cruise ships in the coming years. The president of the Castellón Port Authority stated that “the average number of cruise ships per year, between one and two, is unsatisfactory because it doesn't reflect the tourism potential of Castellón or its port, and we need to change our strategy to improve the results.”.
The Committee is made up of representatives from the Castellón City Council, the Castellón Provincial Council, the Valencian Tourism Agency, the Chamber of Commerce, the Port Authority and the Foundation itself.
In this first working meeting of 2017, the Committee has carried out an analysis of the current situation and has agreed to carry out a diagnosis to determine the potential of the province of Castellón and of the port itself, as well as to define together a specific offer for cruise passengers in order to increase cruise ship calls.
Furthermore, the Foundation's manager, Miguel Rojo, informed the Committee that the Port Authority has announced the addition of an international cruise company to advise on the objective of positioning Castellón on the cruise map. This firm will conduct an assessment that will allow the city to approach the goal of attracting more cruise ships on a solid foundation.
Francisco Toledo emphasized the importance of consolidating the port as a premier stopover for cruise lines, thereby ensuring a diverse and year-round tourism offering for the city and province. Toledo set a goal of attracting 10 cruise ships annually to PortCastelló within two years, “and this will only be possible through the Cruise Promotion Committee, in coordination with public administrations and industry stakeholders.”.
