Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has announced that the Cuban government has granted the corporation authorization to begin operations in Cuba. The cruise line has announced plans to unveil its Florida-Cuba itineraries in the near future.
“Our passengers have expressed interest in traveling to Cuba, and we’ve sought the opportunity to bring them there,” said Richard D. Fain, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “Cuba is a very attractive destination for a whole new generation of travelers.”.
Two of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.'s brands, Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club Cruises, will offer passengers direct trips to Cuba in order to provide exchanges between passengers and Cuban citizens and other travel permitted by current U.S. regulations.
The itineraries will comply with the regulations of the United States Treasury Department that allow travel companies to transport authorized travelers to Cuba to participate in activities as established by the Department of Commerce's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
