Airam Díaz Pastor, Commercial Director, Director of Projects and Studies of the Ports of Tenerife, welcomed the delegates who attended Seatrade Cruise Med 2016 in Tenerife, with a call to cruise companies to bring more passengers to the island.
“We are delighted to announce that there will be a direct flight from New York to Tenerife at the end of 2016, which will allow us to better take advantage of the large North American market of almost 12 million passengers a year,” Díaz Pastor stated.
The new Santa Cruz cruise terminal boasts over 400 meters of berthing capacity. Furthermore, it will be the only port in the region for LNG bunkering.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife recorded over 300 cruise ship calls with 644,000 passengers last year. Statistics reveal that Puertos de Tenerife, the local port authority, which also manages the ports of Los Cristianos, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, recorded a total of 506 calls with 933,161 passengers across its four ports.
