The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) expects to present the plan for the construction of the new cruise terminal for large-capacity ships before the summer of 2017, and hopes that several shipping companies will be based in the port of Valencia.
“Valencia and its port are very attractive to the cruise industry, and we are trying to get some shipping companies that left to return to Valencia and for others that are still here to contribute higher levels of traffic,” said Manuel Rodríguez, Director of Shipping at the Port Authority of Valencia (APV).
Francesca Antonelli, head of marketing at APV, has announced that they will participate in the Seatrade Cruise Med trade fair, which will be held from September 21 to 23 in Tenerife.
According to Manuel Guerra, Deputy Director General of Infrastructure Planning at the APV, another objective of the new terminal's strategic plan is to "retain" the home port and thus the embarkation and disembarkation, which is what gives "meaning" to the cruise terminal.
Regarding cruise passenger forecasts for the end of 2016 at the port of Valencia, approximately 402,000 passengers and between 175 and 176 port calls are expected, according to Rodríguez.
