A completely refurbished QM2 left the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg on Wednesday, June 22, after undergoing its most significant upgrade in its 12-year history. The QM2 arrived in Southampton the following day, where, after its official presentation, it prepared for another transatlantic crossing.
The celebrations in Southampton included a VIP reception, private tours of the ship and a luncheon for a very select group of guests, all of whom were welcomed by Carnival UK CEO David Noyes.
In this “remastering”, one of the most important refurbishments in Cunard’s history, the Queen Mary 2 has combined classic interiors with contemporary designs, some inspired by the original Queen Mary, an Art Deco exponent of the 1930s.

The complete refurbishment took a total of 25 days and required over one million man-hours. In addition, 55,000 square meters of carpeting were installed, 4,000 new paintings were brought on board, and more than 14,000 liters of paint were used to repaint the hull. The Queen Mary 2's wine cellar now offers a selection of 486 wines.
