Cruise tourism and its strategic consequences will be analyzed at a high-level conference to be held in Palma on May 12, promoted by the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB). The event will be attended by top representatives of CLIA Europe – the world's leading cruise association – as well as representatives from Balearic institutions, including the Balearic Islands Government, business and tourism sectors such as the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce and the Palma 365 Foundation.
The aim of this conference is to analyze the evolution of cruise tourism and its positive impact on destinations, particularly regarding job creation, infrastructure development, economic growth, destination promotion, and so on. However, it will also consider potential negative or undesirable effects of the increasing number of cruise ships visiting the islands, from waste management and congestion in historic centers to the visual impact of large vessels.
The purpose of the APB is to consolidate a sustainable development of cruise traffic in order to achieve a global benefit for all the islands in the medium and long term.
