The Saga Pearl II inaugurates the cruise season in Tarragona

The Saga Pearl II has arrived at the Llevant dock cruise terminal in the Port of Tarragona, thus inaugurating the cruise season. The 450 passengers were met by guides and buses that would take them on their various pre-booked excursions.

The cruise ship, operated by the British company Saga Shipping Company, had departed from Valencia yesterday for Roses, Girona. The vessel, sailing under the Maltese flag, is 164.3 meters long, 22 meters wide, and has a draft of 6.3 meters, with a crew of 252 to serve its passengers.

Before docking, 191 passengers had already booked various activities and excursions. 12% were booked to visit Montserrat Abbey, 24% for a tour of Roman Tarragona, 14% for the Ebro Delta, and 50% for a general city tour.

Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada explains that the idea is for each cruise passenger to "enjoy a unique experience when visiting the territory, a destination where all the virtues of the Mediterranean lifestyle come together: gastronomy, wineries, sun, golden beaches, tradition, culture, monumental heritage, modernist architecture, leisure, relaxation, nature and sports.".

This year, the Port of Tarragona plans to receive 22 cruise ships, double the number that docked at the Llevant dock terminal in the 2015 season, which would mean the arrival of some 14,000 visitors to the city.
