The port of Huelva will undertake an investment of 1.8 million euros in the construction of new facilities to facilitate the docking of large cruise ships at the South dock.
The aim is to further promote this line of business in which the port of Huelva has made a qualitative leap in the last year, starting in this tourist segment with seven stops, a figure that is expected to triple next year, according to data from the entity.
The South Quay is located in the port's entrance channel, with 750 linear meters of berthing space and a draft of 13 meters. Currently, it is the dock where the fast ferry on the Huelva-Canary Islands route and the container ships serving the freight route to Northern Europe call.
It is not the only quay the Port Authority has to facilitate the arrival of cruise ships; it also has the Levante Quay. However, the South Quay is the only one that allows the berthing of vessels with a deeper draft.
This quay will also be the site of one of the port's most significant projects in 2016: the construction of an intermodal platform, with an investment exceeding ten million euros.
