The Port of A Coruña today received a new first call of an ocean liner, the<Mein Schiff 4> The ship, which entered service just three months ago, arrived at the Transatlantic Pier at 7:00 a.m. from Southampton and will depart at 6:00 p.m. for the port of Leixões (Porto). On board are 2,500 passengers and 1,000 crew members, for a total of 3,500 travelers. This cruise ship belongs to TUI Cruises, part of the Royal Caribbean group. To mark this first visit to the Port of A Coruña, a reception was held on board the ship, attended by the President of the Port Authority, Enrique Losada, as well as the Maritime Captain, Gustavo Ortega, and representatives of the State Security Forces, Customs, the shipping agent Rubine e Hijos, and Corunna Cruise Terminal.
The president of the Port Authority expressed his satisfaction at celebrating another first cruise ship call at the Port of A Coruña, noting that a year ago the first call of the<Mein Schiff 3> And next year the port of A Coruña will also receive its first visit from<Mein Schiff 5> .
Enrique Losada noted that tomorrow, Tuesday, the September calendar, the busiest month of the year, closes with a double stop, with a total of 15 cruise ships and 30,000 passengers.
Regarding the overall figures for 2015, the President of the Port Authority highlighted that "we are continuing on a very positive trajectory," with 68 port calls and just over 105,000 passengers recorded so far, and the forecast to close the year with 94 port calls and around 130,000 passengers. These figures are similar to 2014, consolidating the qualitative leap that has been experienced since 2009," stated Enrique Losada, adding that "we even expect to grow somewhat in 2016," thus maintaining the Cantabrian-Atlantic coast's leading position in the number of port calls.
The Port Authority will continue to support the cruise sector, given its economic importance to the city and the positive image it projects for A Coruña abroad. In this regard, it's worth noting that a recent survey of travelers showed that over 80% would recommend A Coruña to their friends. The study also estimates the sector's economic impact on the city at around €8 million annually.
