Port Authority, City Council, Board of Trustees and Cruceros Málaga participate in a conference on the international cruise sector.
As part of joint efforts to boost cruise traffic, a delegation from Malaga, represented by the Port Authority, the City Council, the Malaga-Costa del Sol Tourism Board and the Malaga Cruises company, is attending the International Cruise Summit, which is being held in Madrid between November 12 and 13.
The topics to be addressed during the conference will focus on the offerings of ports and destinations, the diversification of cruise lines, and the role of the media in this business, among others.
The President of the Port Authority, Mr. Paulino Plata, considers this forum "of great interest to promote the meeting with the main agents of the cruise sector, as a continuation of the contacts established in other events of the sector" also considering "the need to know the assessment of the current market and the future expectations" that are addressed in the scheduled conferences.
The Councillor for Tourism of Malaga City Council, Julio Andrade, also highlighted the importance of these types of forums for the growth of the cruise sector in the city. “It is essential that Malaga is present at all those meetings where the key influencers and decision-makers who affect such a vital sector for our city gather,” he said.
For his part, the president of the Málaga Costa del Sol Provincial Tourism Board, Elías Bendodo, expressed his strong approval of the renewed collaboration between institutions to promote this sector, which is proving to be "in excellent health." This sector generated a direct economic impact of 40 million euros in Málaga alone in 2013 and, above all, enjoys an excellent reputation among cruise passengers visiting the region. Indeed, "81 percent of them say they would return and recommend our destination.".
This forum, organized by the international consultancy Cruises News Media Group, is aimed at industry professionals, as well as shipping companies and travel agents, who will discuss issues related to the evolution of the cruise sector which, in 2013, generated 1.23 billion euros in direct spending in Spain, which represents 7.6% of total direct spending in Europe.
