The shipping company has chosen the Cádiz shipyard because of the excellence of its work on previous projects, the strategic location of the port of Cádiz, and its ongoing commitment to the Spanish market. Since 2012, four modernization projects have been carried out at the Cádiz shipyard.
In just 12 days and in 24-hour shifts, work will be carried out, among other things, on updating more than 3,500 square meters of flooring, improving the general furniture of the ship and the cabins, as well as expanding the wifi connection and touch screens on board.
Pullmantur, Spain's leading cruise line, has chosen Navantia and the Cádiz shipyard for the upgrades, refurbishments, and maintenance of its fleet. The company selected these strategic partners for four refurbishment projects on three of its ships between 2012 and 2014: the Empress in November 2012, the Zenith in November 2013, and again the Empress and the Sovereign in 2014.
The Sovereign, the company's flagship, arrived at the shipyard yesterday from Malaga. Maintenance work will last 12 days and will conclude on November 14th. The Sovereign will then set sail again for Brazil, where it will operate cruises between November 2014 and April 2015. After the season ends, it will return to Spain to resume Mediterranean cruises, always embodying the authentic Spanish character on the high seas.
This time, the revitalization work on the Sovereign will include, among other things, the conditioning of outdoor areas, the updating of more than 3,500 square meters of flooring, greater comfort in the cabins, improvement of furniture and facilities, and equipment.
These refurbishment works require very intensive planning between the ship owner and the shipyard, which sometimes involves working on the project more than a year in advance, since the complete shutdown of a cruise ship is a critical moment.
During this scheduled stop of the Sovereign, the Sovereign's Wi-Fi range will also be expanded to be available in almost 100% of the ship's space, in order to facilitate access for both passengers and crew members.
In the coming days, 25 touchscreens will also be installed, which passengers can use to expedite access to services such as booking excursions, checking activity information, and more. The Sovereign will be the first ship to incorporate all these new features, which will also be installed on the rest of the fleet over the coming months.
