Star architect Joseph Farcus creates an innovative and contemporary design for the Costa Diadema, “The Queen of the Mediterranean”

The Costa Diadema, the next Queen of the Mediterranean , which will be christened in Genoa on November 7th, will become the new flagship and the most modern ship in the Costa Crociere fleet. Its passengers will be captivated by its elegant style and will experience an unforgettable vacation on board.

Costa Crociere has enlisted the architect Joseph Farcus, a true master of design, for the project of this new flagship. Farcus has been developing projects for cruise ships for the past 35 years and has collaborated continuously with Costa since 2000. The design philosophy of the Costa Diadema is an evolution of Farcus's style: new features, circulation patterns, and a new design have been created for the Costa Diadema, offering passengers the opportunity to experience the ultimate cruise vacation.

The entire ship project is based on the concept of “pure design” and aims to impact the emotions of each and every passenger. “The philosophy is one of sophisticated contemporary design ,” said Farcus. “We have tried to create special designs that affect the emotions of the passengers, suggesting that they are sailing in a special environment created for their enjoyment and taking them to their true destination: their dreams!”

What passengers will notice first at the dock is the ship’s increased height, a result of adding another deck,” Farcus continued. “ The upper deck has been enlarged, and there will be more areas dedicated to sunbathing, sports, a children’s playground, and swimming pools. In addition, the bow and stern have been redesigned, giving it a more streamlined appearance. However, the most striking feature will be the open promenade deck, which encircles the ship on deck 5.

From the Costa Diadema's exterior promenade, you can enjoy spectacular sea views. The longest promenade in the fleet, it features a yacht-like design and offers 500 meters of walking space. The bars and restaurants with panoramic views will immerse passengers in the quintessential Mediterranean summer atmosphere.

The interior design of the Costa Diadema boasts the style of the most charming ships, particularly in its decor and the materials used, with a distinctly Italian touch: in fact, 90% of the onboard chairs are the work of Italian designers. Refined details are present in every corner of the Costa Diadema, such as the glass mosaics that elegantly decorate many areas of this flagship vessel. For example, along the entire open promenade and in the Pizzeria. Numerous classy details permeate other spaces, such as the Samsara Restaurant, where the striped marble wall features artwork inspired by Japanese theatrical masks. Passengers will also be captivated by the gilded walls of the Casino, where tiny light bulbs illuminate the room, creating a shimmering effect.

The Eliodoro Atrium, the first space passengers will see upon boarding, is a crossroads for everyone; the liveliest and most active place on the ship. All will be amazed descending in one of the four panoramic elevators, admiring the beauty of the surroundings. A cascade of light droplets that resemble jewels, the curves, designs, and undulating mother-of-pearl decorations, as well as the marble, create a three-dimensional effect, a fluid perception that reflects the essence of the Costa Diadema.

The elegant décor will be most prominent in the main pool area, Lido Diana (deck 10), where passengers can comfortably sunbathe on luxurious water sofas built directly on either side of the pool. It features white fiberglass walls trimmed in teak, giving it the same yacht-like appearance as the open-air promenade on deck 5.

All these features will surprise passengers, who will find elegant details, never seen before, and gradually discover new aspects of the Costa Diadema.

One area that will be very popular, on deck 4, is the shopping area, the largest ever seen on a Costa ship. The space stretches from one side of the ship to the other with a winding walkway crossing it, giving the appearance of a department store, including the Portobello Road area.

We have worked very closely with Costa’s retail experts to create a top-tier design in line with today’s shopping trends, so that we can offer passengers the most enjoyable shopping experience, even surpassing what you’d find on land. We have dedicated an area, Portobello Road, to best-selling events and merchandising, which further enhances the sophistication of this onboard shopping experience,” Farcus notes.

Some significant new features have also been introduced, particularly on Deck 5, which appears to be a completely new offering for its various dining options and spaces, overlooking the open-air promenade. At Birreria Dresdeen Garden, for example, passengers will feel as if they're in an authentic beer garden, thanks to the rustic wooden decor. Another new addition to the Costa Diadema is the Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant, where each chef will cook all the food on a griddle while passengers are seated around a polished granite countertop. This way, the chef will serve them directly, and they'll dine in a very social setting, enjoying themselves and savoring special Japanese dishes. On Deck 5, passengers can also enjoy a glass of fine wine at the Vinoteca Grand Duca di Toscana, a drink at the Bollicine bar, or dinner at the exclusive Samsara Restaurant and the Diadema Club à la carte restaurant. Children can also enjoy gelato at Gelateria Amarillo. Walking along the promenade, you will reach the Teodora bar at the stern, where passengers can relax comfortably.

In addition, a total of six cabins, decorated like the public space where they are located, and 2 jacuzzis have been placed along the entire promenade, creating the sensational feeling of being suspended over the sea: an exciting experience that only Costa Diadema passengers can live!
