The cruise ship “DEUTSCHLAND”, operated by Peter Deilmann, is making its maiden call at the port of Almería. The Port Authority of Almería is welcoming it with the traditional exchange of plaques and taking the opportunity to promote Almería as a tourist destination.
The cruise ship “DEUTSCHLAND”, operated by PETER DEILMANN, has visited Almería for the first time. On its inaugural stop in the port of our city, the cruise ship carried 500 passengers, mostly of German nationality.
This cruise takes place over 8 days between Lisbon and Palma de Mallorca, stopping in Lisbon, Seville, Malaga, Almeria, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca.
The itineraries that the shipping company designs for its clients are always changing, because many of its clients are repeat customers, and they are looking for new ports.
During the port call, a plaque exchange ceremony was organized between the Port of Almería and the ship's captain, represented by Lopez Guillén. This informal event welcomed the captain to the city and provided an opportunity to exchange information about the ship's activities, the shipping company, and the Port of Almería's experience with this type of shipping.
During the informal chat, in addition to the traditional exchange of plaques, the Captain is provided with specific brochures in English, aimed at this segment of Cruises, as well as digital material so that the ship's excursion manager can learn about the tourist attractions of Almería and its province, so that, in future stops, they can increase the excursions offered on the ship, which guarantees the profitability of the stop for the shipping company, and therefore, that they take Almería into account in their future itinerary designs.
From a regional perspective, the Andalusian ports that receive cruise ship calls, members of the SUNCRUISE ANDALUCÍA association, are working in coordination with Turismo Andaluz (Andalusian Tourism) to jointly promote Andalusia as a cruise destination with the aim of optimizing its performance. In fact, the ports and tourism authorities have developed a Cruise Master Plan for Andalusia for the coming years, which will be presented at the Seatrade Med trade fair in Barcelona this September.
In the words of Trinidad Cabeo, President of the Port Authority of Almería, “Almería has the potential to grow as a cruise port. For years, the port has been working in collaboration with the relevant tourism authorities to promote the tourism resources of Almería and its province. The important thing is that we are working to improve the tourism offerings to make Almería more attractive to cruise lines. This effort will be rewarded with increased port calls, more passengers, and a strengthened brand presence for Almería as a cruise destination.”
