Scenic and Emerald Cruises have opened pre-registration for their Oberammergau Passion 2030 travel program, inviting travelers and their travel advisors to register their interest in taking part in one of Europe's most deeply rooted cultural traditions.
Held once every decade in the Bavarian town of Oberammergau, the Passion Play is scheduled to run from May 18 to October 6, 2030. The 43rd edition of this performance will continue a tradition dating back to 1634, in which the townspeople take to the stage to reenact the story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Scenic's 2030 program will combine early access to the show with all-inclusive European river cruises and tailor-made land trips. This will allow travelers to discover Bavaria alongside some of Europe's most iconic cities, landscapes, and cultural centers.
"Oberammergau is one of Europe's most extraordinary cultural events and, taking place only once every ten years, is an experience that many travelers plan years in advance," says Elisabeth Sadler, Vice President of River Cruise Product at Scenic Group.
"By opening pre-registration now, we are offering travelers and their advisors the opportunity to register their interest in advance. Through Scenic and Emerald Cruises & Tours, they will be able to choose from different travel styles to enjoy this extraordinary cultural event as part of an unforgettable European experience.".
A European experience that is celebrated every ten years
The Oberammergau Passion Play attracts visitors from all over the world during its limited run. The production, performed by local residents and staged at the open-air Passionstheater, takes place only once every ten years. The 2030 edition is expected to include approximately 100 performances throughout the season.
Scenic's upcoming program will offer travelers the opportunity to combine a performance with a river cruise on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers. Further details regarding itineraries, departure dates, accommodations, included services, and availability will be announced soon.
Given that limited capacity is anticipated for the 2030 season, it is recommended to pre-register in advance to receive priority information and access to the trips to Oberammergau that Scenic Group plans to organize.
