Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will take its passengers on expeditions next summer to the archipelagos of Europe, the High Arctic, and the Alaskan wilderness, among other destinations. Aboard its three small expedition ships, HANSEATIC nature, HANSEATIC inspiration, and HANSEATIC spirit, a maximum of 230 passengers will travel. Zodiac excursions, hikes, and expert guidance will allow guests to discover these destinations from unique perspectives.

Featured expedition routes for summer 2027
Expeditions offer a fresh perspective on some of the planet's most unique regions: bird colonies, prehistoric sites in Orkney and Shetland, Iceland's volcanic landscapes, Greenland's vast glaciers and fjords, and Alaska's wildlife. Next summer will offer numerous opportunities for discovery.
Europe: archipelagos with natural and cultural history
Europe's potential as an expedition destination is reflected in the HANSEATIC nature route "Azores and Channel Islands: from Atlantic worlds of wonder to nearby natural rarities".
The journey begins in São Miguel, in the Azores. Volcanic landscapes and whale-watching opportunities are combined with visits to Porto, Brittany, and the five Channel Islands. At the end of the voyage, the small expedition vessel will stop in Heligoland before arriving in Hamburg at the end of May.
The trip thus combines nature observation with different European island cultures.

Another perspective on the European islands is offered by the voyage "Wild Scotland and Iceland: From the Highlands to the Land of the Elves." Departing from Hamburg, the HANSEATIC inspiration will sail through the Orkney and Shetland Islands to the Outer Hebrides and Reykjavik, Iceland.
Vikings and Stone Age inhabitants, elves and trolls, as well as volcanoes, star in a journey where history, mythology and nature combine in an island adventure.

Coolcation: Greenland, Svalbard and North Cape
In the Arctic, the expeditionary nature is especially evident and also coincides with a tourist trend: the "coolcation", that is, traveling to cooler regions, which are gaining prominence.
The "Northwest Greenland Expedition: The Untamed Heart of the Arctic" voyage, in July 2027, will take passengers from Kangerlussuaq to Qaanaaq and the ancient city of Thule. Zodiac crossings, treks, and the history of polar expeditions are the highlights of a route that will end back in Kangerlussuaq.
From July 8 to 20, 2027 (12 days).
Further north is the HANSEATIC nature route "Expedition to Svalbard and Norway (Northern Lights Adventure): Arctic, Adventure and Northern Lights", from Longyearbyen to Hamburg.
The High Arctic of Svalbard blends seamlessly with the Norwegian fjords. Glaciers and walruses are part of the journey, along with the North Cape and the Lofoten Islands. If conditions are right, there's also a chance to see the Northern Lights.
From August 17 to September 1, 2027 (15 days).
Another perspective is offered by the HANSEATIC spirit with "Expedition through West and East Greenland: Greenland as a holistic work of art." In September 2027, the route between Kangerlussuaq and Hamburg will connect the west coast with the little-visited east coast of Greenland and the fjords of Northeast Greenland National Park.
The tour will allow you to discover Greenland as a combination of different landscapes and cultures.

North America: Between Wild Nature and Lock Adventures
North America also demonstrates just how different expedition experiences can be.
On the "Alaska (Inside Passage): A Wild and Fascinating World" route, nature takes center stage. From Seward, the itinerary travels through the Inside Passage to Vancouver. Around Kodiak Island and Katmai National Park, there will be opportunities to see bears, whales, orcas, and bald eagles.
The fjords and glaciers combine with destinations like Kake, Petersburg, and Ketchikan, allowing you to get closer to Alaska's history and culture.
From July 12 to 28, 2027 (16 days).
The "Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River: City, Land, and Water" voyage aboard the HANSEATIC inspiration will connect Halifax, on Canada's Atlantic coast, with Milwaukee. The route combines Quebec City and Montreal with sailing on the St. Lawrence River, the Thousand Islands, and the Great Lakes.
One of the most unique elements will be the passage through numerous locks and the Welland canal, which will allow you to discover the technical and geographical features of one of the largest interconnected freshwater systems on the planet.
Hiking, zodiac tours, and wildlife viewing will complete the experience in Ontario's natural environments.
